Thomas Nelson Page, "The Negro, The Southerner's Problem, African American men represented as rapists, Sons of Confederate Veterans

WARNING PARTICULARLY HORRIBLE STUFF
This was a notoriously racist book published in 1904.  The entire text is online at archive.org, in fact there are multiple copies available from different university libraries. This is the link to one of the many copies that were scanned and made avaialbable online of the book,  "The Negro, The Southerner's Problem." You can view and search the ebook version or download a PDF which you can search.   https://archive.org/details/negrosoutherners00page/page/n8.  If you go to the Internet archive there are about ten or more different copies to download.

See related page. http://templeofdemocracy.com/stephen-dill-lee-and-the-charge.html
This book was sold by the Sons of Confederate Veterans in their merchandise catalog starting at least in 2004.  There might be earlier merchandise catalogs but we don't have them for examination. The last catalog to offer for sale the book was the 2015-2016 merchandise catalog.
There is an "Aftermath and Reconstruction" section of the "The SCV Bookstore" section in the merchandise catalog of 2015-2016, on page 29. On this page they are offering for sale two books glorifying the restoration of white supremacy in South Carolina.  The Red Shirts were violence white supremacists who overthrew the multiracial democracy of 1876.
In the catalog would be the following text, though the books cover illustration did vary, the text recommending the book stayed the same.  The following is from page 29 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Merchandise Catalog for 2015-2016. (Below)
The text recommending the book says, "Despite its politically incorrect title, this reprint of the 1904 original by Thomas Nelson Page is a thoughtful examination of the history of the Negro in the South and his place in American (and Southern) society. states that the chief cause of post-war racial tension in the South grew out of the ignorance in the North of actual Southern social conditions, and ignorance in the South of the power and temper of the North."
The book is just appalling. I have selected two sections of the book to be put into text in a PDF format. One is the Introduction and one is Chapter 4 which is about the lynching of African Americans in the South in which they are blamed for this lynching since they are characterized as prone to being rapists.  However, the Sons of Confederate Veterans recommends this book and recommends it as "thoughtful."

The rest of the book is dreadful but I think these two sections will be enough to give the reader and idea of the racist material that the Sons of Confederate Veterans has recommended and offered for sale.

The sections follow.
You can download the two sections here.
