Throckmorton Street
Named after James Webb Throckmorton who was a Confederate Captain and campaigned against the human rights of African Americans during Reconstruction. This is the Texas State Historical Association hand book entry for J.W. Throckmorton. https://tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/fth36
This TSHA entry somewhat obscures Throckmorton's role as a major enemy of African Americans and civil rights.
The following street first examines the historical record as to why Throckmorton Street is named after James Webb Throckmorton and refutes some nonsense put out by city hall that it was a local farmer.
Then it details Throckmorton's long venomous career in support of white supremacy. The popular focus has been on his being a Confederate, but is only a minor part of his white supremacist career, which also included in overthrowing the multi-racial democracy of Reconstruction and re-establishing white supremacist Dallas.
